Warm Winter Oatmeal with Spiced Maple Syrup

Who doesn’t love a warm bowl of freshly cooked oats on a chilly morning? Let’s make it even more cozy by drizzling a spiced maple syrup over top!

Warm Winter Oatmeal

1 cup water

1 tablespoon Flora Cocina Mulling Spice

Pinch of sea salt

½ cup old fashioned (rolled) oats

Combine water, mulling spice and salt in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for 5 minutes then using a slotted spoon or small strainer remove the mulling spices, leaving the infused water in the pot.

Bring the water back to a boil and stir in the oats. Reduce heat to medium and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, cover and let stand for 2 to 3 minutes.

Top with a shake of cinnamon, fresh berries or dried fruits or nuts, hemp or chia seeds, and edible flowers. Just before eating drizzle on some spiced maple syrup and enjoy!

Spiced Maple Syrup

12oz pure maple syrup

1 tablespoon Flora Cocina Mulling Spice

In a saucepan, warm syrup with mulling spices for at least 5 minutes. There’s no need to get the syrup too hot, the idea is to coax the flavours from the spices and not to cook or reduce the syrup at all. Once you are happy with the level of flavour, strain the syrup in to a clean, dry mason jar or bottle and store in the fridge. Use on oatmeal, pancakes, in cocktails or over ice cream!
